When February begins we begin to see department stores full of pink, red and white hearts and decorations. The time of love and friendship has begun and we can find chocolates and roses everywhere.
Although, when we think about Valentine’s Day, we usually relate it to love as a couple, but love has different branches, and one of them is the love of family. And why not spend it doing activities with our seniors? Here we leave you five activities that you could do together with our favorite senior:
1. Bake cookies: Although heart-shaped cookies seem like a tradition on Valentine’s Day, so, together with your elderly, you can prepare the dough, the chocolate chips and decorate them with the emblematic colors of the time.
2. Themed crafts: there are many simple and beautiful crafts for this season. From cards full of glitter, to paper hearts with pompoms attached. Find an activity that is easy for our seniors and do it together. Paper flowers are a good idea for a pleasant afternoon.
3. A nice family album: Look for the photographs you have saved and with colorfull paper, glitter and glue, create your own album, also it would be Good to remember some moments and anecdotes from when that photograph was taken.
4. Tanghulu: Tanghulu is a delicious Chinese dessert. It is based on caramelizing small fruits such as strawberries, grapes or tangerine. Very carefully, place the sugar on the fire and create your own sticks of your favorite fruits. Don’t forget to wait for it to cool a little. Surely your beloved grandparent will love them because they are delicious.
5. Recreate photographs: if you have photographs of when you were little and your senior took care of you, it would be a very nice gift to recreate them. Both of you look for clothes similar to what you wore during that photograph and do the same pose looking for a place similar to that one then. You will see that in addition to being a pleasant activity, it will be very nice to remember those moments you spent together.
Valentine’s Day is the day of love, friendship, and family. It is the day when we express our greatest love to the people we love so much. And, although we must show them every day, it is always nice to have a memorial day. Our older adults are not only people who have shown us their love and care during all these years, they are also people who deserve to know how much we love them and how important they are to us.
